Convict Notes
Henry Vessey's occupation was a "Razor-blade Grinder". 12/1/1838: Absconded from the Stockade, Lansdown Bridge, since Dec. 29th. 14/9/1842: Sentenced to transportation for life for forgery at Berrima Court. 24/2/1851: Remanded by Sydney police on a charge of stealing a horse - no outcome. March 1864 - Sydney Gazette: Ticket-of-Leave Holder illegally at large. Henry East or Vessey, per ship "Fairlee," 1834, tried at York West Riding Quarter Sessions, 10th July, 1833 for housebreaking, and sentenced to seven years; native place, Yorkshire; born, 1817; trade, razor-blade grinder; height, 5 fee 3 1/2 inches; complexion, ruddy and freckled; hair, brown; eyes, grey; lost a front tooth in upper jaw; nose, pugged; MW and fish lower right arm, blue ring third finger of right hand; anchor, double heart, two bracelets, HY lower left arm; blue ring middle and third fingers of left hand. Sentenced at Circuit Court, Goulburn, on the 11th September, 1854, to seven and five years on the roads for mail and highway robbery. Received a further sentence of two years imprisonment in April, 1861, for breaking out of Berrima gaol. Obtained a ticket-of-leave for the Tenterfield District, 14th September, 1863. [It is more than probable that this offender will recommence his old course of crime.] No date of death found.
