Cheltenham Chronicle Gloucestershire, England 16 Mar 1837 Wm. Heskins, aged 19, and Chas. Smart, aged 19. for stealing, on 22d Feb. at Horsley, a lamb, the property of Chas. Jenkins; transportation for life. There was a second indictment against the prisoners for stealing a ewe sheep at Horsley, the property of Jos. Miles ; but on this, of course, after the former conviction, no evidence was offered. ________________________ Charles Smart arrived NSW per Asia 1 1837. Also known as: William Haskins, aged 19, Cloth-factoryman, transported 1837 on the Neptune to Van Dieman’s Land life; Hulk Registers: William was illiterate, a butcher, connections not respectable - VDL for life, Neptune 1837. https://librariestas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/tas/search/detailnonmodal/ent:$002f$002fARCHIVES_DIGITISED$002f0$002fARCHIVES_DIG_DIX:CON23-1-2/one William was listed as 20 years old on arrival, 5'6" tall, pale complexion, dark brown hair, dark grey eyes. 28/7/1846: TOL. 24/1/1852: Steerage Passenger Hobart Town to Melbourne per 'Victoria'. Only reference found after 1852: There were no births, marriages or deaths listed for Heskins on SA BDM. 13/10/1853 Adelaide Times, SA: Stealing Wearing Apparel.—Jasper Copeland was charged with stealing various articles of wearing apparel, the property of Susan Crisp, Mary Uffindell, Harriot Heskins, and Christina Peacock. Harriet Heskins, wife of William Heskins, of Grenfell-street, gentleman, said the cotton dress produced, valued at 12s, was her property. Mrs Peacock had the dress to wash last Monday week, and she had never seen it since. No Heskins found on VIC BDM, or TAS records.
