After leaving Australia, for New Zealand, the vessel was set upon by natives from Bay of Islands and most onboard the ship were massacred (including cannibalization). The boat was captured and towed to Motu Wai (Red Island) were it was totally destroyed.

Memorial; as Morris Hickey (Fiche 3092; 4/1837B No.454 p.731) -------------------------------------------------- 1817 Dec 1 Petition for mitigation of sentence. The Humble petition of Maurice Hickey sheweth That Petitioner came to this Colony by the Ship Boyd, Thompson Master, upwards of ten years ago, was tried at Waterford , Ireland, March 1808 and received sentence of Exile for Life. That Petitioner has held the Indulgence of a Ticket of Leave for the last five years, which Indulgence he has endeavoured to merit by strict rectitude of conduct supporting a wife and two children by his own exertion. That Petitioner being a man of industrious habits, humbly implores your Excellency to take his Case into your favourable consideration - and grant him such mitigation of the sentence he yet labours under as to your Excellency’s wisdom and Goodness shall deem meet, and you such mark of Humanity. Petitioner as in Duty bound will ever pray, November 1 1819. Liverpool Dec 5th 1819. Maurice, a 'Hedger' by trade, was tried and convicted along with Patrick Keane for highway treason in Waterford, Ireland, in 1809, for burglary & robbery on Thomas Sinnott of Waterford, and attempted murder, both were given the death sentence but this was later commuted to transportation for life. Left Cork on 10th March 1809. Ship:- the 'Boyd' sailed with 139 male convicts on board of which 5 died during the voyage. Arrived on 14th August 1809. Finns Leinster Journal Saturday 5th March 1808. On Saturday last Patrick KEAN and Maurice HICKEY were committed to Waterford Gaol by John Douse Langley Esq, charged with robbing and attempting to murder Thomas Sinnott, of Carriganure, in the County of Waterford. On the 1st June 1812, Maurice married convict Bridget Quinn ('Providence I' 1811) at St. John's Parramatta by the Rev. Samuel Marsden with both signing the register with their 'mark'.
