Richard Hider was convicted at Sussex on 01/07/1841 for buying stolen oats, from Bailiff Mr. Chatfield. 14yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Marquis of Hastings', arriving 08/11/1842. Single man; Protestant; can read; ploughman; 5'7 1/4"; aged 45yrs; fresh freckled complexion; brown hair; brown eyes; stout. Native Place - nr Brighton Mother - Elizabeth, at native place Brothers - James & John Sisters: Ann, Mary, Jane & Maria Two years Probation. Assignments: Lovely Banks (large estate north of Hobart), Brighton, Richmond, Jerusalem. Released from stage 1 of Probation 08/11/1844. 12/12/1848: Ticket of Leave 17/08/1853: Died, from gunshot wounds received at Richmond, Tasmania.
