Lowhill Higbee was 31 years old on arrival in VDL. Transported for Murder/Manslaughter. Lowhill was a Bricklayer/House-servant/Boatman, he was married with 2 children, his wife Catherine at St. Thomas. Lowhill was born in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, but brought up in Trinidad. Stated this offence: "I caught a man twice in my home with my wife; I caught him the third time and struck him with a stick, he died from the blow -I had warned him twice before". Lowhill was a stout-made man of colour, 5'8 1/2" tall, black complexion, black woolly hair, brown eyes. Tried in Trinidad, Lowhill was sent to Sheerness to await transportation to VDL. Assignments: 15/1/1836 - Norfolk Plains 19/7/1836 - Hobart 1/12/1837 - P 8/11/1839 - Hamilton 7//2/1844 - PS Offences: 8/12/1840: Naylor/General neglect of duty and absent without leave - 7 days in the cells on bread and water. 16/2/1844:TOL 5/2/1844: Cook Party/Misconduct in having meat in his possession for which he could not satisfactorily account for - 14 days solitary confinement. 29/3/1844: Cook, Prisoners Barracks/Misconduct in having meat in his possession - 3 months hard labour in chains. 16/8/1844: TOL
