Margaret HIGGINS was convicted at Westmeath, Ireland on 15 Oct 1850 for stealing money. One previous offence. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Blackfriar' arriving 29 May 1851. Aged 28yrs; dressmaker & servant; married, 1 child (not recorded as accompanying her on voyage); 5'4"; can read; Roman Catholic. Native place of birth: Co. Westmeath, Ireland. Husband: James, at home. Sisters: Mary & Catherine Brothers: Pat & John. Also Martin, a soldier. VDL: Various work services. 4 June 1851: Recorded in the employment of Rheuben Barnett, Liverpool St. Hobart. 17 Aug 1852: Application for permission to marry (n.b. remarriages were permitted within the Colony, is Govt. permission granted) to William Pridmore, transported per 'Lord Auckland'. Approved. 30 Aug 1852: At St. John the Baptist Church, Hobart Married William PRIDMORE, wheelwright, aged above 21yrs, widower. Margaret Higgins, above 21 yrs of age. (ref. 37/1/11 no. 580 & notation on Conduct Record) 20 Dec 1853: Ticket of Leave granted. 3 April 1855: Conditional Pardon approved. 12 May 1858: Certificate of Freedom issued.
