Crime: Assault with intent to rob (assault of John Abrey, constable, Henry Hetherell [Hatherell] and John Bannister prosecutors. Initial sentence: Transportation for life. Gaoler's report: 'Character in gaol indifferent'. Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): Two petitions from Sarah Hills, mother of Epping Essex; Prisoner and 10 people. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Mother a widow and bringing up five children on her own; prisoner her only son; first offence; was intoxicated; no violence intended; regrets his actions.
