Born abt 1808 in Kent County England. No details on exact birth.
Joseph was granted a ticket of leave upon arrival in Australia. He worked as a basket maker and fisherman. He spent his life in Australia in and around the Cooks River which is now known as Earlwood, NSW Australia.
Joseph Hilton married Elizabeth Sullivan (1817-1862) in 1840. They had no children. Elizabeth died in 1862.
Joseph Hilton than lived with Christina/Selina Weidemeir (1843-1894) and eventually married her in 1871. They had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. Francis (1862-1922), Joseph (1864-1869), Jemima (1866-1867), Elizabeth Margaret (1868-1925), William (1870-1919), Sarah Jane (1873-1875), Delia (1875-1964), Thomas Henry (1877-1878).
Joseph Hilton died 9 May 1878 at Cooks River (now Earlwood) NSW Australia. According to his death certificate he was 78 years of age.
