1840: A John Hindle, 32, a bricklayer, married Mary Keogh, 19, on 9 November in St John's Church of England and Ireland at Ross. The marriage was registered at Avoca (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-2p241j2k).
1831, 15 October: John Hindle, 19, was admitted to the Justitia prison hulk; he was sent from there for transportation on 11 February 1832 (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832: On arrival in VDL, he was listed as 21, single and a bricklayer who was assigned to the Engineer's Department (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON27-1-5$init=CON27-1-5).
1831, 8 September: John Hindle, 19, was convicted at the Old Bailey. Below is the transcript of his trial: "#1765. JOHN HINDLE was indicted for stealing, on the 3rd of September, 1 hearth-rug, value 10s., and 1 table-cover, value 10s., the goods of John Heath. ANN HEATH: I am the wife of John Heath. I live in White Conduit-fields. On the 3rd of September I hung a rug and table-cover on the rails of my door while I was sweeping the passage; the prisoner had been standing about the street some time - I saw him stoop down at the door, as I thought, to catch the cat; in a minute my neighbour said, "That man has taken your things" - I pursued and saw him with them on his right arm - I said,"Put them down" - he threw out his left hand, and struck me across the throat, but I still pursued, calling Stop thief! and he was secured. ROBERT ALLEN: I was standing at my window; I heard a cry of Stop thief! - I saw the prisoner running with the things - I pursued him down Copenhagen-street, and took him. JAMES SHEEHY: I am an officer. I heard the alarm; I took the prisoner - I found on him two keys, a screwdriver, and a knife. GUILTY.
