After living in NSW the spelling of their surname became Hitchen. George's wife Catherine, who died in 1913, on her death certificate her name was spelt Hitchen.




George Hitchin was 20 years old on arrival. Native Place: Manchester. Occupation: Painter. George could read, was protestant, single, 5'2½" tall, fair ruddy and freckled complexion, sandy to red hair, chestnut eyes, raised scar on centre of breast, scar back of forefinger of left hand, large scar on cap of left knee. 1846: TOL, Bathurst.
