Mary HOBBS was convicted at Middlesex, London on 14 Jan 1830 for stealing - a pr of trousers. Gaol report: "not known at Newgate prison before". 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Mellish" arriving 23 Sept 1830. Single woman. Colony of VDL: Assigned out to work services. 7 March 1831: A. Reid Esq- disobedience of orders. 3 mths at the House of Correction, Hobart. 14 Oct 1831: J. Wilson - absent from service. House of Correction, Hobart. Further records of misconduct until 1836.
