Lucy was born in Sutton Valence, Co. Kent. The family name is Hodges (not Hodge as recorded on the convict manifest). She was the eldest daughter in a large family. Her mother died in 1820 and times must have been hard trying to manage her younger siblings. She was caught stealing clothes and sentenced to death (commuted to 14 years). She was imprisoned in Maidstone Prison for a number of years and transferred onto the Lord Sidmouth at Deptford for transportation in 1823. She disembarked in Hobart (VDL) and worked as a servant for a merchant for some time, but eventually was moved to Launceston. She married Edward Woodhart (Guildford, 1820) in Launceston in 1827. They had a number of children. The family moved to Sydney NSW in the 1830s. Edward died on 28/2/1850. Lucy died in Newtown Sydney in 1881. Lucy and Edward's descendents today number in the thousands.
