John Hofman was 24 years old, (it states) however there were many different dates of birth for this man. On arrival in NSW John was 25, from Newington, and was sent to Goat Island, to be worked in irons. 8/5/1839: Sydney Gazette: John Hofman, 25, Surry, boat builder, 5'3 1/2" tall, dark ruddy complexion, brown hair and eyes, small mouth, thick nose, ship, woman and spear lower left arm, top of right 4th and little fingers crooked, blue ring right middle finger, man, woman, tree, 1830 heart and 2 darts, 2 birds. Absconded from Woolloomoolloo since June 7th. John then made his way back to England and was again transported on the Marquis of Hastings 1842 to VDL.
