1821: On a list of 104 convicts maintained by William Cox “free of expense to the Crown” (see Colonial Secretary's Papers, 1788-1856, Main Series of Letters Received, 1788-1826). Note: By 1820, William Cox was a Magistrate at the Hawkesbury in the County of Cumberland. According to Edna Hickson in the Australian Dictionary of Biography, he was also a military officer, roadmaker, builder and owner of a substantial area of land (thanks to land grants). “His large estate at Clarendon near Windsor had all the appearance of a self-contained village. Over fifty convict servants acted as smiths, tanners, harness makers, wool sorters, weavers, butchers, tailors and herdsmen. Cox had steadily improved his flocks, which Commissioner Bigge described in 1820 as among the six best in the colony. He explored the source of the Lachlan River and organized provisions for John Oxley's expedition.” (http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/cox-william-1934) 1825: Timothy Hogan per Dorothy, labourer, at Bathurst (see NSW and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849, NSW General muster A-L 1825). 1825, 19 June: Servant of Major West of Prospect; attestation as to his character for a ticket of leave includes the following: “Timothy Hogan… [is] an honest, sober, industrious character having served faithfully Major West Esq residing in the District of Prospect from June 3rd 1821 untill [sic] June 19th 1825.” Signatories are the Resident Magistrate Mr Dawson, Chaplain Samuel Marsden and Master Major West (see NSW Colonial Secretary's Papers, 1788-1856, Special Bundles, 1794-1825, p17). 1825: Index to Letters received: Correspondence re Timothy Hogan’s Ticket of Leave (see NSW Convict Registers of Conditional and Absolute Pardons, 1788-1870, Letters received). 1825, 29 June: On list of convicts granted ToL (Ticket of Leave no 333/180) – Timothy Hogan, Bathurst – in the previous week (see Sydney Gazette and NSW Advertiser, Thu 30 Jun 1825, p1: Government notice). 1827, 15 February: Granted Certificate of Freedom, 35, 5’6 ¾”, dark complexion, dark brown to grey hair, chestnut eyes (see Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867, Registers of Certificates of Freedom, 1 Dec 1823 - Apr 1827, Jun 1828 - Dec 1833).
