Mary Holland was tried 26 Mar 1794 at Surry Assizes aged 26. Transported to NSW per Indispensable 1796. This is shown on the Indispensible Convict Indents p138, SANSW son Daniel Ross (born 15 Nov 1797 NSW) departed the colony in May 1810 as Drummer (Boy) of the 102nd Regt, with his father Serj Lachlan Ross aboard Hindostan. Daniel was discharged from 102nd Regiment still serving as Drummer (Boy) aged 14, at Horsham Barracks - 27 Mar 1811, (WO25/1342, f78). This has been mistakenly recorded as a death by some researchers. Mary Ross was tried for obtaining property in the name of Maj Abbott of the 102nd Reg't & Mrs Abbott in May 1809 before the Bench of Magistrates. This may possibly be Mary Holland due to the 102nd Reg't connection At his death in New Brunswick Canada, Lachlin Ross 102nd Casualty Return of 23 Jun 1815 cited a beneficiary as Dan'l Ross with a difficult to read notation of residence which could be 'at Wm Forster Castle Tain Richmond (Scotland)' or 'at Wm Foster, Castle Town Richmond (NSW)' [WO25/2170, f180] The last record of Mary Holland per Indispensdible 1796 is recorded by many as occuring in Nov 1828 as Mary Golland (sic) per Indispensible, described as Joseph Butler's servant, her age given as 50 and her religion as Catholic. The age is quite incorrect compared to the age of 26 at conviction in 1794, but it is not uncommon for people to have lost track of their age in latter years. Bearing in mind that there were at least 19 women named Mary who arrived aboard Indisensible in 1796, there is much room for more research on this. it's quite possible that previous family researchers have incorrectly threaded togther several different women in the commonly accepted account due to not cross checking all the other women named Mary. A Mary Butler died at Pitt Town NSW aged 74 in 1847. Given that the age is in the correct vicinity and the location is the same as the locality her daughter Mary Ann Floyd (nee Ross/Holland) was living adds some possible credibility here, and makes this date worth further research Another Mary HOLLAND died 28 Feb 1847 with a stated age of 60 at Sydney Benevolent Society, and was buried Sydney, St. Lawrence CofE. Once again the age is quite incorrect, but not uncommon to see. Age at death is rarely reliable in this era, particularly when you see a whole number like '50' or '60' which suggest a rounding up or down, or approximation by an informant who really didn't know

Both woman were early pioneers of the MacDonald valley.Donnal Holland is believed to have died in New Brunswick Canada iduring the Canadian wars with his father, Lachlan Ross, who had found him a drummer boy position. Lachlan Ross is believed to have been involved in the founding of Georgetown Tasmania 1805.

After Mary separated from Lachlan Ross, she was in a relationship with Thomas Cooper (Convict, Barwell, 1798). They had a daughter, Louisa Lucy Holland, born 1808. Muster records 1806... [Ref A2171] Mary Holland, Indispensible, FBC. with Thomas Cooper. [Ref C0594] Mary Holland, Indispensible, 2 male and 2 female natural children. 1814... [Ref 6726] Mary Holland, Indispensible, Off Stores, 3 children Off Stores. With Thomas Cooper. Soon after this, Mary was with Joseph Butler (Second Fleet Convict, Neptune, 1790). In fact, the birthdates of her children are quite confusing and it would appear that she may have had children to Joseph, prior to separating from Thomas. I have been unable to locate Mary in the 1828 Census.
