6 Jun 1835 • Published in the Worcester Herald Worcester (County) Petty Sessions: A young man of the name of John Hollington, living in Clapgate, Worcester, was brought up from the City Gaol, in custody of Garland, the beadle, upon the charge of stealing two pigs, the property of George Bayliss, a labourer, residing at Hartlebury. 4 Jul 1835 • Published in the Worcester Herald Worcester (County) Quarter Sessions : John Hollington, 32, was convicted of stealing two pigs, the property of Geo. Bayliss, of Hartlebury. The Court said it was a painful circumstance to see a man who had received a good character in such a situation. The case, however, was one which called for exemplary punishment; here a poor labouring man was endeavouring to support a family by rearing and fattening two pigs, and all his hopes were blighted by having his pigs taken from him; the Court did not know any man more deserving its protection than the honest labourer, when the low rate of wages was taken into consideration. 11 Jul 1835 • Woolwich, London, England • Prison Hulk Register: 11 Jul 1835; Ship: Justitia; Place Moored: Woolwich; Sentenced for stealing pigs (7 years & transportation) 26 May 1836 - 10 Jul 1836 • At Sea (Transportation ship 'Moffat') : Royal Navy Medical Journals, 1817-1857; Treatment at sea: Record of John Hollington being treated aboard ship for Paroxysms; Listed as working in 'mud gang' clearing drains prior to onset; Discharged as cured on July 10th. 1842 • Granted Certificate of Freedom : Prisoner No: 36/1742; Certificate No: No: 42_1898 | Occupation: Glove Cutter 1847 • Certificate of Freedom Re-issued : Prisoner No: 36/1742; Certificate No: 47_243 (Certificate of Freedom states original certificate from 1842 mislaid) 1860 • Death recorded in Victoria Australia : Reg No. 2693 Biographical Information: Baptised at St Peter's, Worcester, on 20 Oct 1803 : Father: John Hollington Mother: Sarah Slatter.
