On Friday the 30th ultimo, at Native Dog Creek, aged 42 years, Ann, the beloved wife of Mr. Redmond Hope, leaving him and five children. May she rest in peace. Bathurst Free Press, 4 Jan 1860. -------------------------------------------------- COUNTRY NEWS. Diptheria.-We regret to announce that this fatal and mysterious disease has made its appearance in this district in a most unmistakable form. At Native Dog Creek, a locality situated to the south of Campbell's River, it has committed great havoc in the family of a small settler named Redmond Hope, who, together with his wife and child, have fallen victims to its virulence, and only two small children are left survivors of the family. Many other cases have also been reported to us from the same locality, and arising from the same disease, of which at least twelve have proved fatal. So fatal does this malady operate upon the human subject, that many cases have been known to terminate fatally within forty-eight hours from the commencement of the attack.- Bathurst Times. Sydney Morning Herald, 17 Mar 1860.
