Family connections for John (Hopkins) may be: HOPKINS ??? (Hopkins) produced perhaps 7children: 1.John (Hopkins) was born about 1798/1802. He was an employee in James (Powers) music store when he was tried for stealing, on 23 8 1813, trumpets etc of his employer at Old Bailey on 15 9 1813, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 9 1815 after a voyage of 5.5months on BARING. He was issued his Conditional Pardon on 4 6 1819. He was an emancipist at Pitt Town when he married Catherine (Humphrey) of Pitt Town on 20 4 1824 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. He was Free by Servitude in 1826. He was recorded in 1828 & 1830 as a farmer. Old Bailey (t18130915-0) JOHN HOPKINS, Theft > grand larceny, 15th September 1813. 895. JOHN HOPKINS was indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 23th of Aust , eight trumpets, value 8 l. thirteen horns, value 3 l. 15 s. and twenty-five music books, value 3 l. 15 s. the property of James Powers . JAMES POWERS . I am a musical instrument and music seller , No. 24, in the Strand . The prisoner was a servant in my employ. THOMAS EDWARD JONES . I am a pawnbroker, shopman to Mr. Benton, High Holborn. The prisoner pawned with me bugle horns, trumpets, and music books at different times. Q. Did he bring any more than one trumpet at a time - A. No. On the 19th of January last he pawned two bugle horns for one pound one shilling in the name of Turner. He has pawned several times at our house. I am positive to his person. I produce the property. Prosecutor. This trumpet is my property; it is worth twenty shillings. GUILTY , aged 17. Transported for Seven Years . First Middlesex jury, before Mr. Justice Heath.
