Family connections for James (House) are: HOUSE EXPLORER James (House) was born about 1790. He was tried at probably Old Bailey, sentenced to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 5 4 1818 after a voyage of 6months on BATAVIA; he was Protestant; he was forwarded to Bathurst for distribution on 14 4 1818. On 15 5 1820 he accompanied J(ohn?) (Howe) on further exploration of Hunter River. He married Ruth (Ashburn/Ashby) on 9 10 1820 at St Matthews CofE Windsor-some confusion with permission on 29 8 1820 given for a James (Hanse) to marry. On 16 10 1821 he was sent to Newcastle (possibly for bad behaviour) on ELIZABETH HENRIETTA, from where he escaped, was captured & sent to Port Macquarie on NEWCASTLE. On 22 11 1823 he was discharged at Emu Plains & sent to the Bench at Penrith. He was possibly sent back to Newcastle at this time, from where he escaped again, was captured, & sent again to Port Macquarie. He is recorded in 1828 as James (House) with his wife on 5acres at Head district. He may have produced 1child in his lifetime. [Some details taken from this Website] Ruth (Ashburn/Ashby) was born about 1789. She was tried w/others? for stealing cotton gown etc of Mr (Beasley) draper of Nuneaton Warwickshire at Warwick Quarter Sessions on 10 1 1809, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 8 1809 after a voyage of 6.5months on INDISPENSIBLE; she was Protestant. She had a first relationship with Charles (Meyrick his first relationship) & produced a child. She is recorded in 1828 with her husband James (House) on 5acres (maybe hers) at Head district. She produced perhaps 1child in her lifetime. [Some details taken from this Website] [Noted a James (House) & Alice (???) are recorded as producing a child:] [1.George (House) was born on 16 3 1813 & baptised on 28 3 1813 at St Phillips CofE Sydney.] Reference: Craig James Smee 'Births and Baptisms Marriages and Defacto Relationships Deaths and Burials New South Wales 1788-1830' ..a complete listing from church & other records in the early colony.
