Pocket-picking—Two young men, named John Howard and James Hoole, charged with picking the pocket of Hannah, the wife of William Gill, of Clown. Mrs. Gill proved that on Tuesday, she came to the Sheffield market, and in the afternoon she went into Uie shop of Messrs. Cockayne drapers, to purchase several articles. Many persons were in the shop, and when she wanted to pay for her purchases she found that her purse, containing four sovereigns, twelve halfcrowns, piece, and 6s. or 7s. In silver, had been taken out of her pocket, where site felt it on entering the shop. Jane, the wife of William Simmonite, of Koagh Bank, proved that on Tuesday afternoon, she went into Messrs. Cockayne’s shop, and site entered, she saw the prisoners talking at the door. She had not been in the place more than two or three minutes when Howard  came in, and after going to the upper part of the shop, went and placed himself beside Mrs. Gill, who was standing about the middle. She saw him put his hand into Mrs. Gill’s pocket, and draw something out, which put into his own pocket. He then left the shop, and the prisoners walked down the street together. She was so frustrated by what she saw, that she did not make any alarm in the shop. She told her mother, and in the evening gave information to the police.—Astwood proved that the same evening , he and went into Broadbent’s dressshop, where they found the prisoners, and look into custody. Howard had upon him five half-crowns, a sixpence, and some copper.—The prisoners were committed to the Sessions; but Hoole was allowed bail.
