The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The Convict Indentures state that Margaret Howard was 18 years old. She could neither read nor write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of City of Cork. She was a kitchen maid. Margaret was convicted of stealing clothes at Cork City on 29 June 1838 and sentenced to 7 years. She had one prior conviction and served 1 month. She was 5 feet 0 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy freckled and pock pitted; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 143. Prisoner number 141-39.
