OLD BAILEY. Yesterday John Lander and William Howe, were indicted for breaking into the house of E. Sinclair and stealing pairs of shoes. J. W. Ballard stated, that he had been acquainted with the prisoners five or six weeks, and he met them at the Gold House, public-house, in in Golden-lane, the evening before the robbery. The burglary had been fixed on some days; and after the Gold House was shut up, the prisoners and witness went to the prosecutor’s house. Witness was handed over a wall, the prisoners, and forcing the shutters of a back parlour, got access to the house, whilst the prisoners waited to receive the booty. They carried the stolen goods to Mrs Jennings, in the neighbourhood, and returned for more; but carrying the second booty. Mrs. J. would not take them in. They then left them at a house, in Bridgewater-gardens,  whilst they returned again, but the tin of booty was refused at this second house, and it was taken to the house of Stanton, shoemaker, in Providence-place, where it was deposited in  pigeon-loft. They then went to the Catherine Wheel, in Bridgewater-gardens, where they found Howe, who had missed them,  and man called Banbury. Witness, the two prisoners, and Banbury, went to one Wheeler, at a green-shop, in Long-lane, and disposed the articles. For cross-examination he described himself to a hard-working man, who had never before been in trouble, he confessed the robbery soon after he was taken, from desire to retrieve his character. Stanton was next called, and he proved that the property had been left at his house by the prisoners, and he took them in without suspicion, knowing Lander, who had worked for him. Guilty—Death.
