John HOWELL was convicted at Kent, England on 8 Aug 1829 for stealing a handkerchief and apples. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'David Lyon' arriving Aug 1830. Single man; aged 19yrs; labourer; 5'6 3/4" height; fair complexion; dk brown hair; blue eyes. Place of birth: Deptford, London. Clear conduct record in the Colony. Assigned in the Brighton area (just north of Hobart).
