Suffolk Lent Assizes. John Howes and Moses Storkey, for robbing the bleaching grounds of John and Robert Aldred, of Wissett, of a quantity of hemp, were each sentenced to be transported for life. — Bury and Norwich Post, 9 Apr 1817. ---------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, the following convicts were removed from the County and Borough Gaols,in this town:—Daniel Spooner, Simon Mills, Moses Storkey. John Howes, Barnaby Gilson, and James Whitbread, be put on board the hulks at Gosport. Suffolk Chronicle, 17 May 1817.




Sentenced at Lent Assizes at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk on 27 March 1817 for "larceny from bleaching grounds." John and accomplice Moses Storkey were both sentenced to life. John was sent to the prison hulk "Laurel" on 15 May 1817 and remained there until despatched on 11 July 1817 for departure to NSW on 24 July 1817.
