Samuel was tried as "HOYE' but is listed on VDL records as "HOGE' Old Bailey: SAMUEL HOYE, Theft > theft from a specified place, 28th June 1820. Offence: Theft > theft from a specified place Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Death SAMUEL HOYE was indicted for stealing, on the 7th of August, 1818 at St. Luke, Chelsea, one time-piece, value 8 l., the goods of John May, in his dwelling-house. Prisoner's Defence. I have no friends, as I do not live in town. GUILT . - DEATH. Aged 32. Served 6 years on board the Captivity at Portsmouth dischd 12 years ago. Wife & 4 children at {Judbury} in Essex with her Father Palmer at {do} 1830: Assigned to Mr. W. Foster 1832: Public Works 1833: Survey department 1835: Public Works. Conduct Record: Mostly drunk. Nov. 1836: TOL 1850: CP No date of death found.
