In hopes of overtaking it at Roberts's, he proceeded on foot very tipsey. Half-way, a man stripped him of his surtout coat, jacket, trowsers, and shoes. In the coat was money to the amount of 1£. 17s. Kerwan the constable happening to come up just at the completion of the job, the fellow ran. Kerwan overtook and captured him. The ruffian was committed yesterday to take his trial. Part of the clothes have not yet been found, the other part was found on his person. He had a certificate of freedom about him four days old, which he says belongs to him, but this is doubtful. Jesse being naked and tipsey, and the night frosty, he would certainly have lost his life, but for Kerwan, who is a superior constable. Sydney Monitor, 25 Jun 1831.
