Convict Notes

Jane Huggins was witness to the marriage of Benjamin Cusley (former first fleet Marine) and Phoebe Pendarick on 31 March, 1795, by the Rev. Samuel Marsden at St. John’s Church, Parramatta. The other witness was Pvt Joseph Cocking of the NSW Corps, suggesting he and Jane Huggins were a couple. Cocking was also on HMS Glatton returning to England in 1803, recorded as accompanied by a wife but no children.

Jane Huggins was one of 8 women without children having the Governor’s Permission to embark on board HMS Glatton in April 1803 as the partner of one of the reduced soldiers of the NSW Corps returning to England. It has not been determined which soldier was her partner.
