Hugh Duffy was again sentenced in NSW in 1845 for housebreaking and was transported to a penal settlement. Court, 10 Sept 1845, Sentence 15 years, age 38, 5ft 8¼. Catholic, can read and write a little, Single. Offence – Breaking into a Dr’s shop & stg medicine , pro W.C Leslie at Pattersons Plains. To NSW Lady Mc Naughton, 1835, Tried Antrim for Handkerchiefs, 7 years. Trade- Painter & glazier, native of Belfast. F (father) Hugh, M – Sarah; B – Jas. Peter, John; S – Jane, Mary, Eliza, at Edinburgh. -------------------------------------------------- HOUSEBREAKING. Hugh Duffy, free, was indicted for having, at Singleton, on the 11th of August, 1845, broken into the dwelling-house of William Coglan Leslie, for the purpose of committing burglary. The prisoner pleaded guilty; and was sentenced to fifteen years transportation. Maitland Mercury, 13 Sept 1845.
