In the colony, he had a long term liaison with Mary Underhill, (Convict, Speedy, 1800). The couple appear to have had one child, also Hugh born 1803. the 1806 Muster had [A2056] Hugh Hughes, Alexander, Wheelwright, Parramatta. [A4485] Mary Underei, Speedy, with Hugh Hughes Parramatta. Hugh also had Jane Walker (Convict, Marquis Cornwallis, 1796) employed in his house, during an overlapping period. Once again the 1806 Muster [A4850] Jane Waleker, Marquis Cornwallis, with Hughes, Parramatta. Jane also was noted with family [C1408] Walker, Jane, Marquis Cornwallis, 1 male 2 female children. It is unclear if any of these children are Hugh Hughes. I can establish 1 was not, but two; John 1799 and Grace 1806 appear to be so.
