National Archives. Criminal Petition. HO 17/15/1221825 July - 1825 Oct Prisoner name: William Hughes. Court and date of trial: Warwick [Warwickshire] Spring Assizes 1823. Crime: Robbing the house of Parker in Birmingham [Warwickshire]. Initial sentence: [Death] commuted to transportation for life. Annotated (Outcome): Sailed in the Guildford August 182- character from gaol very bad. Petitioner(s): Elizabeth Hughes, prisoner's mother and V B Phillips. George Edmonds. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Distressed parents; father since died; asks for sentence to be reduced. Other papers: Letter from George Edmonds enquiring as to progress of petition. Additional Information: Prisoner transported to Bathurst, New South Wales.
