Old Bailey: EDWARD HUGO. Theft: grand larceny. 1st December 1819 Verdict Guilty Sentence Imprisonment; Corporal > whipping Edward Hugo b. 1800, EDWARD HUGO was indicted for stealing, on the 8th of November, eight printed bound books, value 30 s., the property of Thomas Keys. Prisoner's Defence. A young man brought them to me to sell for him. William Hawkes, of Brick-lane, gave them to me. GUILTY. Aged 19. Confined Six Months, and Whipped. Old Bailey:EDWARD HUGO. Theft: pocketpicking. 28th October 1820 EDWARD HUGO was indicted for stealing, on the 19th of October, one watch, value 50 l., the goods of William Norris, from his person. GUILTY. Aged 20. Transported for Life. Father and Mother at 58 Long Lane - a Tailor 1830-32 Musters: TOL 1833 Muster: Conditional Pardon 16/9/1833. 22/6/1838: Free Pardon. No.352 20/3/1853: Steerage passenger, Launceston to Melbourne per 'Yarra Yarra' - Free by servitude - ship to colony: Countess of Harcourt.
Convicted of stealing a gold chain and seals. He was born in London but was brought up with his family in St Issey, Cornwall. His father was also a tailor. He was conditionally freed in 1833 but I don't know (yet)if he returned to England or stayed in Australia.
