Convict Notes
Humphrey James GEORGE was born 1783 in Ashby with Thurne, Norfolk, England. His parents are William GEORGE born in Ashby with Thurne, Norfolk, England and Elizabeth DYBLE born in Winterton, Norfolk, England. He married in 1814 in Ashby with Thurne, Norfolk, England to Elizabeth WARNES and had two children; Robert and Elizabeth GEORGE. After he was convicted and sent to Australia, Humphrey again married in 1829 to Mary Ann WICKHAM at St Peters Church Campbell, New South Wales, Australia. To Mary he had five children; Mary, Humphrey, Elizabeth (Betsy), Edward and Hannah. He passed 1855 in Dapto, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia aged 72.
James Shreeve, James Shreeve the younger, Humphrey George, John Coleby, Edward George, and Thomas Spink, were severally convicted stealing on the night of the January 1820, a quantity of corn belonging to Mr. Moore, of Repps, farmer, and sentenced; the two Shreeves and Humphrey George, to be transported for seven years, and the others two year imprisonment the House of Correction.
