Family connections for Hannah (Hutchinsg) are: HUTCHINS Hannah (Hutchin/gs/Hitchi/ens) was born about 1803 & became a housemaid. She was tried w/1other for stealing, on 20 5 1823, poplin cloth of Miles (Metcalf) of St Andrews Holborn at Old Bailey on 29 6 1823, sentenced to death reprieved to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 5 4 1824 after a voyage of 4.5months on BROTHERS; 5'0" pale with pock pitted complexion brown hair light blue eyes. [She is differently described in an alternative occupation, place of trial, religion, personal description on this Website & as recorded on the voyage as loose but quiet; & also as one of the women with illness 'Synocha Mites'] On 3 6 1825 while ssigned to Mrs (Drummond) of Liverpool she was sentenced to 6months at House of Correction Parramatta by Liverpool Police Court & to return to Mrs Drummond on completion of her sentence. She married firstly Thomas (Benton his second marriage) on 15 3 1826 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced at least 3children. She was issued her Ticket of Leave in 1829.>>> [Some details taken from this Website] Thomas (Benton) was born in 1771. He arrived in NsW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship ALBERMARLE. He enlisted in NSW Corps as a private in 1801 (stated as an ex-convict) & detached to Prentice)s company. He was detached to (Grose)s company in 1802. He was detached to (Kemp)s company in 1805. He was recorded in 1806 as a soldier with Martha (Morris). He was recorded as Free by Servitude by 1806 when he had a first relationship with Martha (Morrison); whom he later married. He was detached to 6Company in 1809 & transferred to 73rd Regiment on 24 4 1810. Hw was recorded with 73rd Regiment when he married Martha (Morris/on) on 18 6 1810 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was recorded on 25 5 1812 at Parramatta as private in 73rd Regiment husband of Martha (Morris). He was recorded in 1827 & 1829 as a labourer. He, named (Benson), died in August 1832 age35 in Lunatic Asylum Liverpool father of at least 6children-mostly girls Thomas (Benton) does not have an entry on this Website as yet: added by me. .. >>>Hannah Hutchin/gs/(Hitchi/ens) married secondly Henry (Samuels) on 12 9 1836 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & produced 5children. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom in 1838. She died about 1864 age about61 mother of 8children & was buried at St Stephens Church Newtown with her husband. Henry (Samuels) was born about 1805 perhaps in London & became an errand boy. He worked from time to time for John (Lowther) a broker. He was tried for stealing, on 4 11 1819, 2sheets being bleached of John (Norton), at Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 12 2 1821 after a voyage of 4months on PRINCE OF ORANGE; he was 5'4½" dark ruddy complexion brown hair grey eyes. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom no.27/504 at some time & Ticket of Leave no.297/2771 on 28 11 1832. Hutchings, age 19. Synocha Mites Complains of pain in the limbs, and forehead; lassitude; heat; restlessness, thirst: bowels confined; pulse regular. All these women had similar complaints and were treated in the above manner. Some required considerable purging,- and several had the blood letting repeated. Of course these cases were soon discharged. ------------------------------------------------- One of 39 women on board “Brothers” who landed in NSW. Surgeon’s Comment on Conduct on board during the voyage. Hannah Hutchings - loose but quiet.




Old Bailey: MARIA WILLIAMS, HANNAH HUTCHINS, Theft > theft from a specified place, 25th June 1823. Verdict: Guilty; Not Guilty Punishment: Death MARIA WILLIAMS and HANNAH HUTCHINS were indicted for stealing, on the 20th of May, at St. Andrew, Holborn, thirty-three yards of poplin, value 2 l., the goods of Miles Metcalf, in his dwelling-house. WILLIAMS'S Defence. I was coming along Holborn, and met Hutchins very much in liquor. She asked me to go with her to buy a gown, and I went with her, not knowing that she meant to steal. HUTCHINS - GUILTY - DEATH. Aged 16. WILLIAMS - NOT GUILTY. Hannah was 5'0" tall, pale and pock pitted complexion, brown hair, light blue eyes. 1825: Assigned to Mrs. Drummond, Liverpool. 3/6/1825: Liverpool Police Court Records: Sentenced to 6 months at the House of Correction Parramatta to return to Mrs Drummond on completion of her sentence. 1826: Married Thomas Benson (Ocean 1823) who died in August, 1832, aged 35, in the Lunatic Asylum, Liverpool. 1827: Mary A Benton 1829: William d 1831 3/8/1831: Sarah Ann Benson 1832: Hannah was born, Henry Samuels daughter. 12/9/1836: Married Henry Samuels (Prince of Orange 1820). 1837: Louisa Samuels 1840: Henry W Samuels 1842: James C Samuels 1846: Ellen 1829: TOL 1838: Hannah received her CP. 1864: Hannah died and was buried in the same plot as Henry at St Stephens Church Newtown, NSW. Henry Samuels died in 1849, aged 44 years.
