TIMELINE NOTES: BC: 1759 [Indent] or 1768 [Census] or 1766 [death] Sentenced: 30/03/1812 Warwick Lent Assize to death, commuted to transportation for life [with Hannah Fearn] Crime: Shoplifting (Source: www.ancestry.com.au England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892, Class: HO [Home Office]27; Piece: 8; Page: 330) “WARWICK ASSIZE…Hannah Fearn and Elizabeth Hyatt for stealing muslin &c, in the shop of Mr Cadbury of this town, condemned…Ann Rowley for felonies…Jane Robinson for picking the pocket of Thomas Brown…transported seven years…”(Source: Warwick (UK) newspaper article, undated, circa early April 1812) Previous Occupation: Mantua maker [dressmaker] Age on Convict Indent: 55 Ticket of Leave 2085 (indent) 1814 Muster: Elizabeth HYATT, con, Brox, off stores, single, Sydney (6971) 1819 – Elizabeth, prisoner, said that when she arrived, she brought letters of recommendation to Mr Deputy Surveyor Evans, from several respectable inhabitants of Warwick, particularly from his cousin, Thomas Collins Esq, an Alderman of that Borough. In consequence of this, she was put into the service of Simeon Lord Esq & was still there. She had a husband [in NSW] & family in England & wished one day to be restored to them. She now threw herself on the Governor’s mercy & asked for a CP. She signed her name. There was also a letter from Mr Evans, agreeing with a strong recommendation. In lieu of no. 62/2085 dated 31 Jan 1820 now returned mutilated Native place, Gloucestershire - Occupation housekeeper - Tried Warwick Assize 30 March 1812 with a life term - Born 1767 - 5'1½" tall, pale complexion, grey hair & hazel eyes - Remarks: to remain in Sydney (Source: SRNSW Convict Tickets of Leave, Reel 913 - 4/4074) NSW BDM: 1) James Hyatt, free, aged 70, died on 23 May 1823 & funeral on 27 May. The service was held at St Philips Sydney. (V1823-5776-2B) 2) Elizabeth Hyatt, aged 66, of George St, was buried on 25 May 1832 by Rev Richard Hill at St James. (V1832-1658-16) Jess’ Girls– SAG: 1819 – servant to Mr Lord, Sydney 1822 –Muster 1825 – as Hiatt, TL, housekeeper 1828 – Census Reel 913 – TL 30/95 in lieu of 62/2085 – 31 Jan 1820 replacement for one mutilated. It was for the district of Sydney, Elizabeth was a native of Gloucester, born 1767, mantua maker, 5’1½” tall, pale complexion, grey hair & hazel eyes. Reel 616 – Petition of 1820, is a servant to Simeon Lord, wants freedom to return to Eng. Reel 890 – TL 95 – 1 May 1830, duplicate, for Lane Cove COD 16 – d 25 May 1832, aged 66, Rev Richard Hill, Sydney Convict Indent: James Hyatt reached NSW as a convict on the ship Elizabeth (1) I on 5 Oct 1816.
