Isaac Paine was convicted at Wells August 1840 for housebreaking and stealing. 7yr sentence. Sent to Parkhurst Prison for Boys on Isle of Wight (for 3yrs - had received 20 lashes for neglect of work and being thoughtless) then further transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Mandarin' arriving 16 Oct 1843. Shoemaker; single; Protestant; can read & write a little. Native place - Farringdon, Somersetshire. 1 yr Probation period, at Browns River, VDL. Several notes of misconduct. Free by servitude Aug 1847 Free Certificate Oct 1847
