National Archives. HO 17/54/451829 Oct 14 Prisoner name: George Isherwood. Prisoner age: 37. Court and date of trial: Lancaster Summer Assizes 1829. Crime: Burglary. Initial sentence: Death, commuted to transportation for life. Gaoler's report: Character bad, before convicted of felony, married with eight children. Annotated: Nil. Petitioner(s): Alice Isherwood [the prisoner's wife] with 13 parish officers from the parish of Leigh near Bolton-le-Moors. Grounds for clemency: Previous good character; he got into bad company; he has a wife and six children who wish to accompany him abroad. Additional Information: Held in Lancaster Castle Gaol.
