Frederick JAQUES was convicted at Cambridge, England on 1 Jan 1838 for stealing a watch. Gaol Report: "character bad", had been in prison several times. 7 yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "orderly". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Minerva' arriving 29 Sept 1838. Stated his brother William had been transported abt 3 yrs ago. Single youth/man. VDL: Assigned to Point Puer in the Colony (reformitary for youths). Numerous reports of misconduct. Punishments of solitary confinement, stripes and time at Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 1845: Free Certificate issued. 10 July 1845: charged with Larceny - a opossum skin. Committed for trial. 22 July 1845: Hobart Supreme Court: 12 mths imprisonment. 5 Aug 1846: Departure from Hobart Town for Sydney, New South Wales per the ship 'Scout'. (ref. CUS36/1/469)
