The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Originally embarked with 221 convicts, 5 Died at sea, 1 was Relanded. 11 sick on shore, The convicts were described as 220 such wretchedly debilitated creatures ... Westmeath Assizes. James Carroll was indicted for stopping James Seery, on the road at Rathconnell, and demanding his money, on the morning of the 6th of April last. Guilty—to be transported for seven years. Southern Reporter, 24 July 1832.
James Carroll was indicted for stopping James Seery, on the high road at Rathconnell, and demanding his money, the morning of the 6th of April last. James Seery, sworn—Was stopped by a man with black mask on his face, he demanded his (witness's) money.. he said he had only few shillings, he then demanded his watch. The man had two pistols, one larger than the other, his face was covered :Mr. Thompson sent out a party of police. The pistols were like the ones produced. Patrick Gibney, sworn—Recollects the fair day in April last, was going to the fair, knows where Rathconnell is, was with Mr. Seery when he was stopped, saw a case of pistols in the fellow’s hands, he presented one of them at witness and desired him to stand back, or he would shoot him, did not see him any more. James Hiaey, sworn—Recollects the 6th of April last, was at work at Michael Kenny's place —heard a shout, and observed a hat coming along the ditch, he running on the lands of Rathconnel, and direction of Cooksborough, saw four men pursuing him. Nicholas Halligan sworn—Recollects the fair morning, was driving barrow at Rathconnell, saw four men pursuing a man, he was running along the gripe, witness followed him three ...
