Trial 7 Feb 1849 for house robbery, stealing a plate valued £50 Desc: 5'2" tall, illiterate, RC, single Absconded 6 Jan 1853 from the service of Mr Young, Campbell St Absconded 19 Jan 1853 from the service of Mr Young, Campbell St TOL 16 Apr 1855 CP recommended 23 Apr 1855 Certificate of Freedom 16 Feb 1856 (sentence expired) Permission to marry 5 Sep 1855 approved - Catherine Oliver(Woodbridge 1843), married 1855 (3 children from marriage) The Cornwall Chronicle 12 Sep 1855-: A LOVER'S QUARREL. "James Duffy and Catherine Oliver were taken into custody by sergeant Ryan on Saturday night, for disturbing the peace by throwing pots, kettles etc at each other. It was explained that the disturbance was caused in consequence of the length of time the Comptroller- General takes to reply to their memorial for permission to marry, Duffy being of the opinion that his intended had never sent it down and not taking into consideration, the fact, that the Comptroller himself is in trouble at present." Died before 1885 as per wife's death certificate
