Family connections for James (Gabbage) are: GAMMON/GABBAGE At this time James (Gammon) & James/John (Gabbbage) are regarded as one person. ames (Gabbage/Gammon/Gammon) was born in London about 1761. He was tried at Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 1 1800 after a voyage of 4.5months on MINERVA (although Smees records show he does not appear on the indent). He had a relationship with Jane Ann (Appleton her second (2of4?) relationship) <1805 in Sydney & seems to have later married her, as James/John (Gabbage emancipist baker) on 1 6 1810 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1811. He, as James (Gabbage), died on 2/3 1 1814 age53 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney-named as James (Gabbage CANADA 1801). James (Gammon/Gannon) does not have an entry on this Website as yet. Could (Gammon & Gabbage) be the same person?. Jane Ann (Appleton alias Mary (Way)) was born about 1782. She was tried for stealing linen, on 16 1 1801, at Reading Quarter Sessions Berkshire, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW on 14 12 1801 after a voyage of 7.5months on Fleet ship NILE. She had a first (1of4) relationship with John (Young) <1803 (marriage not shown in Smees records) & produced 1child. Shewas Free by Servitude by 1811. She married thirdly or fourthly William (Chandler his first marriage) stone mason emancipist age55 on 23 1 1815 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She is recorded in 1828 Free by Servitude with her family at Cumberland St Sydney. She died about 1845 age63 mother of maybe 10children. [Some details taken from this Website-which suggests she had a child before meeting (Young)] James/John (Gammon/Gannon/Gabbage) & Jane Ann (Appleton) produced maybe 5children: 1.John (Gammon) was born on 25 9 1805 & baptised on 29 3 1807 age18m w/halfbrother John Robert at St Phillips CofE Sydney. 2.William (Gammon/Gannon) was born on 17 10 1808 in NSW & baptised on 25 2 1808 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. 3.Mary Ann (Gammon/Gannon) was born on 1 7 1809 in NSW & baptised on 25 2 1810 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She died on 13 12 1810 age19m & was buried as Mary Ann (Gannon) at St Phillips CofE Sydney. ..[However a Mary Ann (Gabbage born about 1812) is recorded as marrying Charles (Smedley) carpenter Ticket of Leave on 22 3 1830 at St Phillips CofE Sydney] ..[Charles (Smedley) was born about 1798 & became a carpenter. He was tried with 2others for breaking entering & stealing, on 24 10 1816?, burnishing stones of Joseph Stevens (Ingleton) of Moors Yard St Martins London at Old Bailey, sentenced to death reprieved to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 10 4 1817 after a voyage of 5.5months on MORLEY. He was apparantly sent to Norfolk Island. In September 1829 he was sent to Sydney for issue of his Ticket of Leave. 1/6/1810: Married Jane Appleton (nile 1801) they had 2 chldren, Sarah 1811 and Mary 1812. 1/3/1814: Died aged 53 - free by servitude. Have not found any record of James, no crime, ship of arrival etc.
