8 Nov 1819. To Governor Macquarie. The Respectful Memorial of James Gettings That Memorialist came to this Colony in the Ship Hadlow Capt Craggy, was tried at Bristol in the year 1818 and sentenced to Transportation for Life. That he has worked this time past on the Roads under the Superintendence of M Johnston to whom with the greatest humility, he begs leave tor refer for his General good character and attentions. That Memorialist solicits from your Excellency the kind Indulgence of a Ticket of Leave, which if granted he will pursue the same untarnished. May it please your Excellency to Grant the prayer of this his Memorialist and he as in Duty bound will pray. This ….man has worked very well on the Parramatta road .. never brought before a Magistrate for Misconduct of any sort, is therefore recommended for a ticket of Leave. (Signed) George Druitt, Chief Engineer. Seeking permission to Marry, 5 Feb 1821. Parramatta, Samuel Marsden. James Gittens, prisoner per Adlow (1st) and Mary Kirkman, prisoner per Morley (3rd). It is possible that this notice refers to James Gittens. ESCAPES.—-Three Convicts escaped from the Justitia Hulk, at Woolwich, on the 29th ult—JOHN SUMNER, Waterman, a Native of Coperday, Oxfordshire: 5 Feet 6 ½, aged 20, dark Complexion, well made, oval Visage, hazel eyes,  dark brown Hair, large Scar on right Arm, Scar left Side -Burglary at Oxford ; and sentenced to be transported for Life.   JAMES GITTINS, Cotton-spinner, of Bolton, Lancashire 26 Yrs, round Visage, hazel Eyes, brown Hair, Scar left Side of Lip, the figure of an Angel and Trumpet on right Arm; he was convicted for seven Years.- JOHN GALLAGHER, a common Soldier, born at Fermoy, Ireland ; convicted of. Felony, at Liverpool, aged 21, well made, fresh Complexion, oval Visage, grey Eyes, light hair, Scar over and under left eye, bears marks of Military.
