Marriage. https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Digital/RGD37-1-12/RGD37-1-12P274 James Morrissy, age 40, Labourer, and Margaret Dugan, age 40, Servant, were married at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hobart Town, by Rev Chas Wood, on April 25 1853. Both signed with their mark, X. Witnesses were John Williams and Margaret Williams.
Sentence death is recorded against ... John Hutchinson, and James Morrissy, convicted of rape. Waterford Chronicle, 23 July 1842.
City Court, Thursday. James Hutchinson and James Morrissy were placed at the bar charged with violating the person of Mary Connors, itinerant beggar, on the 26th March, Ballyscantan. Mary Connors was the first witness called and examined Mr. Scott. The prosecutrix proved the offence, the particulars of which arc utterly disgusting, the unfortunate woman's child was torn from her, and his arm and leg broken. Dr. Eaton William Waters proved that on Easter Saturday he examined  the prosecutrix and found several severe contusions on different parts of her body ; her clothes also very much torn. Head Constable Wolfe was the next witness examined— proved the prosecutrix came to him in Tramore, and preferred the charge against the man whom she did not know; she was very much hurted; then the party who arrested Hutchinson, and afterwards she described where Morrissy lived ; the police arrested, him at his own house.
