John 1st arrived in Sydney Cove on the 25th November 1827. 185 Male convicts. of which 7 were sent to the hospital, 3 Died. Surgeon Superintendent- Died on the voyage . John - 1836/1837 Voyage. Medical Journal was lost on the homeward passage by the shipwreck of the Ship "Medora' There is an index only.

Convict Notes
James NIND was convicted at Stafford, England for stealing fowls. Previous offence. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'John' arriving 1831. Single man; aged 30 yrs; cabinet maker/joiner. Native place: Newcastle Under Tine. 19 Oct 1836: Application for permission to marry - Sarah WORTH (transported per the ship ‘Mary’). Approved. (ref. 52/1/1) 28 Nov 1836: Marriage - Sarah WORTH, Spinster, on Ticket of Leave, per ship ‘Mary’ to James NIND, bachelor, on Ticket of Leave, per ship ‘John’ I. At Parish of St. David’s, Hobart Town. (ref. 36/1/3 no. 3208). Sarah WORTH brought her own son with her from England. He was admitted to the Queens Orphanage, New Town, Hobart but later released to her care after she had obtained her Ticket of Leave. Sarah Worth also had a child, born VDL, but died as an infant - k/a George Dale. Child: Ellen NIND 1843 Census: living at Cascade, Hobart. 1848 Census: living at Macquarie St. Hobart. 1852: Death: Sarah NIND (transcribed on Index as “Nine”) died 5 Sept 1852 at Hobart, Tasmania, aged 53 yrs.
