IN VDL: 1817: On arrival in VDL, he was listed as James Welsh, 23 years old, 5'3" tall with light brown hair and eyes; he was a waiter whose native place was Ireland (https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON23-1-3$init=CON23-1-3-p117j2k). 1823: Free by servitude (https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-45$init=CON31-1-45p5).

IN NSW: 1817: On arrival in NSW, he was listed as James Walsh or King, aged 34 (New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1817 Chapman). 9/8/1817: He was one of 70 convicts (69 from the Chapman and one from the Pilot) who were forwarded to VDL per the brig Jupiter.

IN IRELAND: 24/9/1816: James Walsh was convicted in Dublin City of stealing wearing apparel and sentenced to 7 years' transportation. He was held at Newgate jail in Dublin before being sent from there to board the convict ship Chapman.
