Jane Knight was born c1802-1803 in Hertfordshire, England. Crime 14 Jul 1829 • Newgate Gaol, Middlesex, England Jane was arrested for simple larceny and indicted for stealing from her mistress, Maree Louisa Rede, 5 silver tea-spoons, 2 gowns, 1 coat, 1 riding-habit, 2 sheets, and 1 jacket valued at 67 shillings. Arrival 29 Jun 1830 Convicted at: Middlesex Gaol Delivery Sentence term: 14 years Ship: Roslin Castle (Roslyn Castle) Departure date: 17th February, 1830 Arrival date: 29th June, 1830 Place of arrival New South Wales Passenger manifest Travelled with 127 other convicts Jane, who was aged 27 at the time, was 5 feet 2 and a half inches tall, could read and write, with brown hair and light brown eyes, and had a ruddy and slightly freckled face, with a few scars, was tried at the Old Bailey on 10 September 1829. Their son, Edward was born on 24 June 1835 at Penrith (Evan), New South Wales, Australia and was christened on 26 June 1835 at St Peter's Church of England, Richmond, New South Wales, Australia. Jane died on or after 24 June 1835, possibly as the result of, the birth of Edward, at Penrith (Evan), New South Wales, Australia Her Husband: Edward Kelly was born in about 1800, in County Offaly (formerly Kings County), Ireland. Edward departed from Cork, Ireland on 4 November 1821, with 199 other convicts, aboard the "Isabella" and arrived at Sydney Cove, New South Wales four months later, on 14 March 1822 when aged about 19 years, having been sentenced to be transported for 7 years.
