On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. Ticket of Leave. In Hobart Town District Janet Brodie, alias Elizabeth Levack, (75), ... Mary (3.) The Hobart Town Gazette, 29 Nov 1828. GOVERNMENT NOTICE, No/50. Colonial Secretary’s Office, March 3, 1830. The period for which the under-mentioned persons were transported having expired, certificates have been granted to them accordingly: Janet Brodie, alias Elizabeth Levack, 75, Mary. Hobart Town Gazette, 13 Mar 1830.
Janet Brodie alias Levach was indicted for having, between the term of Martinmas 1821, and that Whitsunday 1822, stolen from the house her master, Mr Mitchell, residing at Wamton Crescent, a quantity table cloths, napkins, and other articles, which were recovered from brokers; and she herself was identified by the brokers to be the person who had pawned them. There were besides other corroborating circumstances. The Jury were addressed by the Lord Advocate for the Crown, and Mr Bruce for the defence, after which, the Lord Justice Clerk summed the evidence ; when the Jury, without retiring, returned a unanimous verdict of Guilty, The pannel, who appears 40 years of age, received sentence of transportation for seven years. ADM 101/51/3 Medical journal of the Mary, female convict ship from 12 April to 3 November 1823 by Harman Cochrane, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed on a voyage to Van Dieman's Land and New South Wales. Folio 30: Jannet Brodie, aged 30, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, sickness at stomach, pains in her lower extremities which are now confined to the ankles and are extremely severe, little swelling of the joints; put on sick list 30 July 1823, discharged 11 August 1823 from list.
