Edward Jefferies, 1799 - Baptised 24th March. 1799. Brenchley, Kent, England. Son of Edward Jeffery and Lydia (nee Hichmott) Jeffery. Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C13094-2 , System Origin: England-ODM , GS Film number: 0992456, 0992457 Married Harriet Jane ? 1827 - Tried Kent Assizes 12th July, 1827, Sentence 7 years Transportation to NSW. Transported 1828 to Botany Bay, New South Wales on ship "Bussorah Merchant" 1828 - Bussorah Merchant (1) Arrived NSW 26 07 1828 NSW . Embarked 27 03 1828 from London, Journey took 121 days,170 Male Convicts embarked, 166 Convicts arrived, Ships Master Jas Baigrie, Surgeon Superintendant Rbt Dunn. On arrival at Botany Bay, The "Bussorah Merchant" was quarantined in 1828 because of having smallpox on board. The passengers lived in tents on shore. The Manly Quarantine Station was like a campsite at this stage with passengers helping to cut wood, clear bushland, and pitch their own tents. The "Alligator" was used as a hospital ship. Edward was Assigned to Mr. William Cox. at Clarendon, Windsor, 1828 NSW Census November, Edward Jefferies, Age 30 yrs, Government Servant, "Bussorah Merchant", 7 yrs, Occupation Bullock Driver, Emloyer - William Cox, Residence - Clarendon, Windsor. Census Reference No JO223, Page 207. 1832 - Obtained his Ticket of Leave No.1284 on 31st December, 1832. 1834 - Granted Certificate of Freedom 11th October, 1834. No. 34/1319. Granted a Pardon on 21st October, 1834. 1840 - Purchased a Hotel "Archer Hotel" at Richmond, NSW. on 22nd June, 1840 (Have not proved this yet) 1841 - Resided, Richmond, Ham Common, County Cumberland, District Windsor (Information source - 1841 Census Return No. 533, Identifiure X951, Page 55, Reel 2223 ) 1842 - 29 June, Obtained the Publicans Licence for 'The Archer Hotel', Richmond 1842, Licence Number 0395 Information source NSW State Records, Publicans Licences[4/74]* Reel 5057.
