A most daring robbery was committed on Wednesday evening, about half past eight o'clock, in the dwelling house of Mr. Collard, shoemaker of Alkham. The family of Mr. Collard consisting of himself, housekeeper, and a little boy, were sitting by the fire, and the former was solacing himself with the comforts of a pipe after the fatigues of the day, when four ruffians armed with bludgeons, deliberately walked into the room, and threatened their lives if they made the least noise, On Mr. Collard attempting to call for assistance, one of the villains struck him a dreadful blow on the head, which cut it open; they then took from his person all the money he had about him, amounting to nearly four pounds, and after ransacking the house, departed with their booty, consisting of a watch, several coats, breeches, silver table and tea spoons, and in fact every thing portable they could lay their hands on, leaving the poor man entirely destitute, The villains were ….. and appeared to be all young men, about five five inches high, Mr. Collard’s shop was broken open in January last, and several pair of shoes stolen therefrom, for which two men were were taken at Faversham and committed to Maidstone Gaol.
