In August 1839, bushrangers Powell, Lynch and Clip were arrested by a party of five men led by James Walker’s Superintendent David Archer. This party included ticket-of-leave men Edward Jerry and John Patterson, and assigned convict Thomas Maddox. They had been seeking Powell’s group after they had committed a number of other robberies in the region. As a reward for their effort in capturing the felons Jerry and Patterson were granted Conditional Pardons and Maddox a ticket-of-leave.
