John COCHRAN was convicted at Glasgow, Scotland on 29 Sept 1841 for theft - stealing silver. Previous similar offences. Gaol report: "character bad". 7 yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship "John Brewer" arriving 6 April 1842. Single man; aged 32 yrs; a Tinker & spoonmaker; 5'7 1/2" height; Protestant; not literate; blind in one eye. Native place of birth: Belfast, Ireland. Mother: Ann - living at Glasgow 3 sisters Colony of VDL: 18 mths Probation Period. 1st station gang - Impression Bay Several notes of disorderly conduct. 1846: Ticket of Leave granted. 29 Sept 1848: Conditional Pardon approved.
